Love can be the most beautiful experience of life. Misunderstood love can also be the biggest disappointment in life. When my babies were just toddlers Dad preached a sermon called “Quid Pro Quo”. It wasn’t just the odd title that caused me to remember it. I have treasured the points in this sermon for over 30 years because it caused me to think deeply about the “purpose” of real love. Love can never be a mere exchange of wishes and wants. If we try to make love and marriage into some sort of contract between two people – the lofty goals of marriage fly right out the door.
